 Wooden Art Lamp

Wooden Art Lamp, 17” x 8” x 13”

A combination of light, wood and calligraphy… This lamp is not a lamp anymore. It is a sculpture which plays with letters, colours, shades, textures and shapes of wood… My new work – totally inspired by the Slovenian nature that surrounds me. They are made of an oak veneer and LED ribbons.

 Broadside "GREAT"

Broadside, GREAT, 16.5″ x 25.5″, paper

“Great” was made in February 2013 in Carolingian script with red gouache and Brause nibs, on watercolor-treated Aquarell Arches paper. The letters GREAT are embossed with different amounts of pressure throughout the work. The quote is by Paulo Coelho. Made for the Advanced National Diploma in Calligraphy for The Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society.

The piece was inspired by the book Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho, that I was reading during the creative process. In the book there is a young woman – extraordinary – dancing and writing calligraphy! Which of course attracted me very much. In the book you can find interesting thoughts, quotations and philosophy about calligraphy! Do you want to hear a funny story behind this piece? I sent a photo of it to one of Paulo Coelho’s Facebook accounts and I got a response! But I thought it must be from someone else and we started to write e-mails to each other. One day there was a question on Skype: “Can I call you?” And I said: “Sure”. I thought to myself, OK let’s see now who is really behind all this. And there was really Paulo Coelho on my screen! :)

 Broadside DOVE

Broadside, DOVE, 11.5″ x 23″, paper

“Like a mourning dove” is written in Copperplate in fading blue gouaches, with a P embossed on the bottom. It is written on 250 g. Canson Edition paper. The author of the text is Christine de Pizan – the first medieval she-scribe who was not a nun. Made for the Advanced National Diploma in Calligraphy at CLAS.

 Broadside BUCHSTABE

Broadside, paper, BUCHSTABE, 16.5″ x 23.5″

This piece is dedicated to the “Letter” (Germ. Buchstabe) with watercolor washes, automatic pens and a layered embossing technique, executed on Rosaspina Fabriano 280 g. paper. The quotation, underneath layers of different types of letters is:

“Ein einziger Buchstabe entscheidet darüber, ob man das Gedächtnis verliert oder die Freiheit gewinnt.”

by deutscher Theologe Detlev Fleischhammel.

(A single letter determines whether you lose the memory or the freedom wins.)

This piece was created in March 2014 for my solo exhibition INSPIRATION, which took place in the Schriftmuseum Bartlhaus in Austria.

 Archival print BRUSH

Archival Print, BRUSH, 12.5″ x 19″

Bürste (Brush) is an archival print of a piece made with a dry brush technique on black 250 gsm. Canson Edition paper. The work is dedicated to my large brushes that I use so much. Bürste means “brush” in the German language, not the small ones (Pinsel) that calligraphers ordinarily use, but the large ones used for painting walls. In the upper part of the piece, the letters of Bürste are layered in Textura majuscules. The small gold lettering underneath is: meine Bürste, meineLeidenschaft, meine Liebe, meine Leben (my brush, my passion, my love, my life). The original piece was made in April 2014 for my solo exhibition INSPIRATION, which took place at the Bartlhaus Museum of Script (Schriftmuseum Bartlhaus) in Pettenbach, Austria.

 Archival Print BUCHSTABE

Archival print, BUCHSTABE, 14″ x 15.7″

This is an archival print of a broadside dedicated to the “Letter” (Germ. Buchstabe) with watercolor washes, automatic pens and a layered embossing technique. The quotation, underneath layers of different type of letters, is:

“Ein einziger Buchstabe entscheidet darüber, ob man das Gedächtnis verliert oder die Freiheit gewinnt.”

by deutscher Theologe Detlev Fleischhammel.

(A single letter determines whether you lose the memory or the freedom wins.)

The original piece was created in March 2014 for my solo exhibition INSPIRATION.

 Archival Print CALLIGRAPHY

Archival print, CALLIGRAPHY, 11″ x 19″

This archival print is a reproduction of artwork which was originally made with a brush technique on wood with metallic acrylic colours. This is one of my favourite pieces as it changes colour depending on the light. It is at the same time different and fascinating … There are several layers of metallic gold and copper colours, containing words related to calligraphy. In lower center you will see the inscription: Calligraphy. There is also a vertical quote:

CALLIGRAPHY IS GEOMETRY OF THE SOUL – PLATO

The original size of the artwork is 39” x 52” and it was made in April 2014 for my solo exhibition INSPIRATION.
