Denis Brown DVD’s at the Scribe Store

The calligrapher, artist and teacher Denis Brown will be selling his DVD’s at the Scribe Store:

Western Calligraphy goes East. An eight part documentary film, featuring Irish artist/calligrapher Denis Brown making large scale art in China for the Beijing Rosewood Hotel. Here’s a free sample of the program on YouTube:

The Calligraphy DVD program “Italic Rhythm to Polyrhythmic Calligraphy: Expanding Writing Dynamics” has 9 hours of video tutorials and inspiring demonstrations in a multi disk set for PC and Mac computers. Denis Brown presents his philosophy and techniques. Check out the Youtube samples and introduction below:

 

 

 

PARTICIPANTS’ EXHIBIT

Here’s your chance to strut your stuff! Please bring a piece of your artwork to display during the week.

This is a do-it-yourself exhibit. Here are the particulars:

  • Bring one piece, unframed (matted is okay)
  • Any medium, any subject (sorry, no books or 3-D works – must be hangable)
  • Maximum size: 9″ x 12″
  • Write your name on the back
  • Bring a business card or equivalent identifier
  • Hang it yourself on Saturday or Sunday
  • Remove it on Thursday after class

The Participants’ Exhibit at The Passionate Pen will be located in the Student Center near the weeklong stores. We will provide clips with which to hang your artwork. Instructions will be posted there.

Participant artwork will be displayed without gallery sitters or other security. While we do not expect any problems, the pieces will not be insured against damage or loss, so please keep this in mind when choosing a piece to bring. High quality copies are acceptable if you have any concerns.

Work that is left hanging on Friday will be collected and brought to the office. If you have not picked them up by Friday afternoon.. bye, bye!

Georgia Deaver Artwork at the Scribe Store

The following items by the San Francisco artist and calligrapher Georgia Deaver will be on sale at the Scribe Store. Check them out!

These cards are sold individually and in box sets of 6 and they are an A2 size.  They are on a natural white cream colored paper and the envelopes match.

Corgi
These cards are sold individually in an A6 size.  They are on a natural white cream colored paper and the envelopes match.

These cards are sold individually and in box sets of 6 and they are an A2 size.  They are on a natural white cream colored paper and the envelopes match.

Cat
These cards are sold in box sets of 6, as both single image boxes and a cat variety pack.  They are A2 size.  They are on a natural white cream colored paper and the envelopes match.

French Bulldog
These cards are sold in box sets of 6, as both single image boxes and a dog variety pack.  They are A2 size.  They are on a natural white cream colored paper and the envelopes match.

Laura Drager Book at the Scribe Store

Laura Drager’s accordion book entitled “Benedictions” will be at the Scribe Store. It was a recent class project with the goal of creating an item for reproduction. It will be displayed on a tri-fold display board.

Paste Papers by Michele Barnes at the Scribe Store

The Scribe Store will be selling Michele Barnes’ paste papers during the conference.

The papers are Arches Text Wove with wheat flour paste and Golden Acrylics.
They each measure approximately 13” x 19”.
A few of the papers are shown above.

Call for Scribe Store Consignments

If you haven’t yet considered selling some of your art at The Passionate Pen Scribe Store, it’s not too late. The application date has been extended. Complete consigner information is now posted on The Passionate Pen web site at:

The Application Form is linked from that page. We’d like the application form by May 15 so we can plan store requirements and design the room layout.

Registration Deadline

Hello Letter Lovers!

Plans are coming along nicely and registrations are pouring in!
March 15th, the deadline for using your registration number priority to get into your class preferences, is approaching quickly. If you haven’t done it already, this is just a reminder that you need to have your housing and tuition fees paid and your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices for each of your classes selected by Sunday, March 15. After that date classes will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis!

Class assignments will be sent out on May 1st.

The Historical Manuscripts tour in Berkeley is now sold out. At this point you can get on the waiting list, or choose another of our exciting tour options. Don’t forget about conference merchandise! These T-shirts are HOT!
